Entries

• Artwork must be started after the beginning of the FY27 school year and completed prior to the December judging date for your school/school district.

• Only the student may work on his or her artwork under the supervision and critique of a teacher currently working in the student’s school or school district.

• Students working on a School Art entry either in school or in a home environment may not receive instruction, guidance, or critique from anyone other than the supervising teacher (for example, a private instructor, another teacher, parent/relative, or professional advisor).

• Artwork created under the supervision of any person, teacher, or instructor outside the registered school district will not be eligible for the Oconee RESA Art Competition.

• Each school may submit 3 best entries from each grade level (Kindergarten through 12th) per category.

• Each individual student is allowed only one entry per category and the art MUST be the student’s work.

• By submitting and signing the label on the back of the art, the teacher certifies that it is the work of the student.

• Each student submitting artwork must be registered on the Student Entry Form submitted by the school by Monday, November 30, 2026

• Entry Fee - $5 per entry (nonrefundable)

• Entry fees should be paid with a school-issued check

• Checks should be made out to Oconee RESA with a memo for ART CONTEST

Disqualification Procedures

If a student’s artwork is found to be in violation of the artwork restrictions detailed in these Oconee RESA Art Competition Rules and Regulations either before, during, or after the district judging, the artwork will be disqualified and will not be judged, and the student will not be eligible for any award.

Judging

The following criteria will be considered when artwork is judged. Originality, creativity, and composition will be heavily weighted, along with the student’s ability to apply technical skill and artistic excellence. 

Originality:

Is the concept or idea original? Is it the student’s own work and/or does the work show interesting composition with multiple sources? Does it appeal to a wide-ranging audience, and is it marketable?

Creativity:

Does the piece of art show the student’s imagination? Is the subject matter unique? Is the interpretation innovative?

Skill:

Skill is assessed based on the artist's age.

Excellence in drawing (2D only):

To what extent has the student achieved accuracy? How difficult is the chosen medium? How well does the student draw, use color, hues, shading & texture?

A committee of judges will judge the entries and award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners for each grade level of competition in each category. Students who do not place will receive a Participation Certificate.

Awards and Projects will be delivered to schools the week of December 7-11, 2026.

Your school/district may pick up the Art projects during this time, if you prefer.
